Audi began to produce new models, A1. The German car manufacturer chose a factory in Brussels, Belgium, to assemble the hatchback, the Audi’s smallest car.
“Production and investment inaugural A1 300 million euros (about USD 3.4 trillion) at the Brussels plant is an evidence of real support to the automotive industry in Europe. VW Group subsidiary is targeting the production of 50,000 units A1 until the end of 2010. Next year, the target was increased to 80,000 units and will reach 100,000 units in 2012. Factory production capacity in Brussels can reach 500 units in two shifts per day with 2200 employees.
“Audi Brussels is responsible for the production of A1, and it is a challenge and a chance at the same time,” said Werner Widuckel, Director of Audi Brussels.
Audi A1 will start to be marketed in the near future. A1 is available in four variants, i.e. two petrol and two diesels. All engines will have an injection system and turbo, which is 1.2L TFSI (86 hp/160 Nm), 1.4L TFSI (122 hp/200 Nm), 1.6L TDI (105 hp/250 Nm), and another version 1.6L TDI (90 hp/230 Nm). The prices for Continental Blue A1 starts from 15 800 euros (about USD 182.1 million) to 21 150 euros (about USD 243.7 million) per unit.
