The development of electric car (EV: electric vehicle) and hybrid “plug-in”, it also raises new technology. In this case the system is recharging the battery. According to analysts, wireless charging system (wireless charging) will become the standard. The reason is, how to fill it more practical and certainly more enjoyable user.
It was presented by Laura Marino, Deputy Director of Electronic and Electrical Systems Research Oak Ridge National Laboratory to several hundred engineers who followed Automotive Power Electronic conference, organized by SAE France, SIA, April.
“Imagine a mother with three children after shopping with many items in hand! Certainly will not remember installing stekker his car to the outlet in the garage, “said Marino.
With this charging system, no need to use cables, plugs and electrical sockets. Charging is done “hands-free”. Cars parked on top of the charger or power source, then charging will take place by itself.
Further, the system can be used or installed in the garage, in the parking lot even in places where bus, taxi or shuttle vehicles between hung waiting for passengers. Including when the car is running on the road surface is installed with this charging system.
Induction vs. Resonance
Actually wireless battery charging system while still in the development stage. Today there are several wireless systems are developed, namely induction, the successor of power or energy (energy / power coupling), resonance, the successor to the magnetic resonant (resonant magnetic coupling).
Wireless induction system created by the Oak Ridge can move the power 5 kW with a slit 25.4 cm (1 inch) and efficiencies above 90 percent. The weakness of this system, cable reels or coil that is used to generate heat and electric power will further reduce the efficiency of work (compared with direct contact). In addition, the system is more complicated because it is equipped with electronic controls. The price is so expensive.
While the developed by resonance system using magnetic resonators, claimed to be able to change more energy efficient and larger gap.
Honda, number two car manufacturers in Japan and number one motorcycle manufacturer in the world, plans to launch a demo and test electric vehicles future generations of small or personal mobility (the experimental vehicle).
The types of vehicles used were electric cars and plug-in hybrids, the newest (EV-neo scooter) electric scooters and other electric vehicles. The test is done in two areas, namely, Kumamoto and Saitama prefectures in Japan. The aim is to determine the efficiency of automotive technology, motorcycles and cars as well as ancillary devices, for example, communication technology. In this trial, solar energy station is also used using a very thin solar cells made by Honda Soltec.
The real target of this program is the realization of low-carbon environment to improve the quality of life and public health in urban areas. At the end of this year, Honda plans to continue this program in the United States, with the main target areas with high concentrations of traffic. In that country, Honda will demonstrate electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles with Stanford University, Google Inc., and the city of Torrence, California, under the Advanced Technology Demonstration Program.
